Billy Coleman is a postdoctoral fellow in early American history with the Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy at the University of Missouri and the author of a new book entitled Harnessing Harmony: Music, Power, and Politics in the United States, 1788–1865. I was intrigued by the subtitle of his book, eager to know exactly what it meant, so I got in touch with him to find out more.
